Sandplay Therapy
A gentle and soothing approach to emotional release, self-understanding and problem solving — for clients of all ages.
Sandplay therapy is a gentle, powerful approach suitable for both adults and children that supports natural healing and growth.
Inner conflicts that can show up as anxiety and depression are given a protected space — somewhere the inner world can be explored safely. The tactile, creative nature of sandplay helps us access the unconscious mind, allowing a deeper exploration of the psyche.
Rooted in depth psychology
Sandplay is part of the Expressive Therapies and is based on the psychology of C.G. Jung. It was developed by Dora Kalff in Switzerland during the 1950s and 1960s, and has been used with people of all ages ever since.
A gentle and soothing approach to emotional release, self-understanding and problem solving.
How a session unfolds
The process involves choosing symbols — figurines, ornaments and natural objects — and arranging them in a tray of sand. Selecting, arranging, exploring their meaning and, sometimes, rearranging them often generates insight and self-awareness that promotes healing and growth.
Clients of all ages are able to express and process emotions while exploring their issues and finding direction. There's no right or wrong way to play in the sand — the images that emerge speak in their own time.
Sandplay may support you with…
- Anxiety, depression and emotional overwhelm
- Processing difficult experiences and feelings
- Self-understanding and personal insight
- Working through inner conflict and finding direction
- Healing and growth for both children and adults
